1. Who we are and what this policy covers
We are Better Place Remodeling Inc, doing business as Better Place Design & Build. We are a licensed design-build contractor in San Diego, California. We build detached accessory dwelling units, also called ADUs. Our CSLB license number is 1031735.
This policy covers the personal information we collect through our website at betterplacedesignbuild.com, through our online tools and forms, through phone calls, text messages, and email, and in the course of designing and building a project for you.
In this policy, "we," "us," and "our" mean Better Place Remodeling Inc. "You" means the person visiting our website or working with us.
This policy works together with our Terms & Conditions, which govern your use of our website.
Back to top2. Information we collect
We collect two kinds of information: what you give us, and what is collected automatically when you visit our site.
Information you give us
- Your name.
- Your email address.
- Your phone number, including your mobile number if you choose to give it.
- The property address where you are considering an ADU.
- Information you enter into our ADU cost calculator and our other online tools, such as lot details, the size and type of unit you are considering, your budget range, and your timeline.
- Anything else you choose to send us in a form, an email, a text message, a phone call, or a document you upload, such as photos, plans, or property records.
Information collected automatically
When you visit our website, some information is collected by our systems and by the analytics and advertising tools we use:
- Your IP address and general location, such as city or region.
- Your browser type, device type, and operating system.
- The pages you visit, how long you stay, and what you click.
- The website or ad that sent you to us, and the search terms or campaign details attached to it.
- Cookies and similar identifiers. Section 6 explains these.
We do not ask for and do not want your Social Security number, your driver's license number, or your bank or card numbers through our website forms. Please do not send them to us that way.
Back to top3. How we use your information
We use your information to answer you, to figure out whether an ADU on your property makes sense, and to run our business. Specifically:
- To respond to your question, call you back, and schedule a consultation.
- To give you a feasibility read and a cost range for your property.
- To send appointment confirmations and reminders.
- To send project updates while we design and build your ADU.
- To send marketing and promotional messages about our ADU services, offers, and events, when you have asked to receive them.
- To prepare proposals, agreements, permit applications, and other project paperwork.
- To improve our website, our tools, and the way we explain our process.
- To measure how our advertising performs.
- To keep our systems secure, prevent fraud, and meet our legal, licensing, and tax obligations.
Text messaging
4. Text messaging and SMS privacy
We only text people who have asked us to. This section explains how that works, what we send, and how to stop.
How you give consent
We send text messages only to people who have given us express written consent. You give that consent by ticking an optional consent box on a form on our website. That box is never pre-checked. You have to tick it yourself. If you do not tick it, we do not text you.
Consent to receive text messages is never a condition of purchase. It is never a condition of booking an appointment. You can ask us for a consultation, a cost range, or an ADU without agreeing to receive texts.
What we send
- Appointment confirmations and reminders for consultations, site visits, and meetings.
- Project updates about the design, permitting, and construction of your ADU.
- Marketing and promotional messages about our ADU services, offers, and events.
Frequency, rates, and carriers
- Message frequency varies.
- Message and data rates may apply. Your mobile carrier sets those rates, not us.
- Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
How to stop, and how to get help
Reply STOP to any message from us to opt out. You will get one message confirming that you have been unsubscribed, and then we will stop texting you.
Reply HELP to any message from us for help. You can also reach a person directly.
Opting out of text messages does not opt you out of email or phone calls, and it does not affect any project we are already working on together.
Our commitment
Mobile opt-in data and consent are never shared or sold to third parties or affiliates for marketing purposes.
Your mobile number and your consent to receive text messages stay with us. We use them only to send you the messages described above, through the messaging providers who deliver those messages on our behalf. We do not rent, sell, or pass that information to anyone else for their own marketing.
5. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only in the situations below.
- Service providers who work for us. These are companies that help us run the business, such as our CRM, our email platform, our text messaging provider, our project management software, our scheduling tools, our website host, and our analytics and advertising platforms. They may handle your information only to do the work we hired them to do.
- Trade partners on your project. If we are designing or building for you, we share what is needed with the architects, engineers, consultants, subcontractors, and permitting agencies working on your project.
- When the law requires it. We disclose information when we are legally required to, such as in response to a subpoena, a court order, or a lawful request from a government or licensing authority.
- To protect people and rights. We may disclose information when we reasonably believe it is necessary to protect the safety of a person, to investigate fraud, or to enforce our agreements.
- In a business transfer. If our company is sold, merged, or reorganized, information may transfer as part of that transaction. The buyer would have to honor this policy.
Mobile opt-in data and consent are handled differently and more strictly. See section 4.
Back to top6. Cookies, analytics, and advertising technologies
Our website uses cookies and similar technologies. A cookie is a small file your browser stores. We use them to make the site work, to remember what you entered in a tool, to understand how the site is used, and to measure our advertising.
- Necessary cookies make the site function, such as loading pages and submitting forms.
- Analytics cookies tell us which pages people read, where they came from, and where they leave. We use these in aggregate to improve the site.
- Advertising cookies and pixels from platforms such as Google and Meta let us measure ad performance and show our ads to people who have visited our site.
You can control cookies in your browser settings. You can block or delete them. If you block necessary cookies, parts of the site may not work.
Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" or Global Privacy Control signal. We honor recognized opt-out preference signals, including Global Privacy Control, as a request to opt out of the sharing of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Back to top7. How we protect your information
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information. That includes encrypted connections on our website, access controls so that only the people who need your information can see it, and reputable vendors who are responsible for securing their own systems.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, and we will not claim otherwise. If we ever learn of a breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you as required by California law.
Back to top8. How long we keep it
We keep your information for as long as we need it for the purpose we collected it, and then for as long as the law requires.
- Inquiries that do not become projects. We generally keep these while there is a reasonable chance you may still want to build, and then we archive or delete them.
- Project records. Contracts, plans, permits, and construction records are kept for the periods required by California contractor licensing law, tax law, and the statutes that apply to construction claims. These periods run for several years after a project is complete.
- Text messaging consent records. We keep proof of your consent, and proof of any opt-out, for as long as we are required to in order to show that we followed the rules.
9. Your California privacy rights
If you live in California, the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, gives you the rights listed below.
- The right to know. You can ask what personal information we have collected about you, where we got it, why we collected it, and who we shared it with.
- The right to a copy. You can ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- The right to delete. You can ask us to delete the personal information we collected from you, subject to the records we are legally required to keep.
- The right to correct. You can ask us to fix personal information about you that is inaccurate.
- The right to opt out of sale or sharing. We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising in exchange for money. You can still tell us to stop using advertising cookies by using the controls in section 6 or by contacting us.
- The right to limit the use of sensitive personal information. We do not collect sensitive personal information as that term is defined by the CCPA.
- The right not to be discriminated against. We will not deny you service, charge you a different price, or give you a lower level of service because you exercised a privacy right.
How to make a request
Email [email protected] or call 858-355-9766. Put "Privacy Request" in the subject line and tell us which right you are exercising.
We will verify who you are before we act, usually by matching the information you give us against what we already have. We will respond within 45 days. If we need more time, we will tell you and explain why.
You may use an authorized agent to make a request for you. We will ask for written proof that you gave them permission.
Back to top10. Children's privacy
Our services are not directed to anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Back to top11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. When we do, we will change the effective date at the top of the page and post the new version here. If a change materially affects how we handle your information, we will make that clear.
The version posted on this page is the version that applies.
Back to top12. How to contact us
If you have a question about this policy, about your information, or about our text messages, contact us. A real person will answer.
